WAITING FOR THE UPTURN
As with any other commodity, world demand for chemicals must determine the size of the specialised fleet of vessels which transports it. Movement out of the present recession in the chemicals market is not expected to show until the decade's end. But, by then, scrappage of over-age vessels should be alleviating the current tonnage over supply so that, hopefully, a more equable supply and demand situation should be emerging. With an eye on the effect on ship demand, this article analyses current and planned supply and demand projects in the chemicals market.
