ADDED MASS AND MOMENT OF INERTIA OF SHIP RUDDERS
HYDRODYNAMISCHE MASSEN UND MASSENTRAEGHEITSMOMENTE VON SCHIFFSRUDERN
Transverse and torsional vibrations of rudders may cause noise, failures, etc and should therefore be precalculated. For this purpose - besides the moment of inertia of the steel mass - the hydrodynamic moment of inertia has to be known. A method of calculation based on a "Joukowski" profile is shown with results, giving figures for translation, acceleration force and moments of inertia. Even correction for other axes of rotation.
