TRANSVERSE DISTRIBUTION OF EXCESS LOADS ON BRIDGE DECKS
REPARTO TRANSVESAL DE LA SOBRECARGO EN TABLEROS DE PUENTES
The authors present an anaysis of the stresses in a rectangular orthotropic bridge deck supported on two bearings at opposite ends, the other edge conditions being very general. The formula is very compact, using a matrix notation, which makes it possible to program direct for a computer. The solution thus obtained is compared with that obtained by the method of gyon-massonet-rowe, which is a well known simplification, and the differences in the two methods are discussed. An alternative analysis is then presented which is based on the theory of folded plates, which constitutes a mathematical model better adapted to this type of bridge deck structure. In conclusion the numerical results of the two theories are compared. /TRRL/
