ANALYSIS OF ORTHOTROPIC SKEW SLABS BY THE FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD
CALCULO DE PLACAS ORTOTROPAS OBLICUAS POR DIFERENCIAS FINITAS
The problem of the analysis of the stresses in an orthotropic oblique slab, which arises in the analysis of the transverse distribution of bridge decks, may be resolved by the application of a finite difference diagram to a rectangular mesh with oblique axes adapted to the skew edges of the slab. The complexity of the shape of the diagram presented makes it unusable for manual application, but it may be used with a computer. The author recommends that, before the application of this system of analysis, the convergence should be checked and he shows how this may be done. The mathematical scheme for the establishment of the skew coordinates may be generalised to all conditions of support of the slab.
