OPEN-PIT SLOPE STABILITY AROUND THE WORLD
A general review of recent philosophy and procedures for open-pit mine stability is presented. Some improvements have been made in drilling technology and instrumentation to increase the accuracy of obtaining in-situation information on structural geology and groundwater. Recent improvements have been made in our understanding of blasting to reduce the influence of the seismic acceleration forces and gas pressures on the final design slopes. A review of research needs and priorities is presented and suggestions are given to develop guidelines for effective implementation of this research. /Author/
