HAY POINT TWO

The final design concept of the port at Hay Point in Queensland, Australia described consisted of using 3 large caissons for the berth itself and 7 smaller caissons for the approach and mooring dolphins. One of the berth caissons was enlarged to carry the shiploader. The caissons are of a cellular form with relatively thin concrete sections. The hulls of the caissons were post-tentioned in the horizontal direction. On the small caissons a tubular structure extended above the hull to carry the superstructure, whereas on the berth caissons four reinforced concrete columns supported the superstructure.
