FORMULATION OF PROBABILISTIC DESIGN
A transformation of the random variables in a problem of probabilistic design into standardized independent Gaussian variables is proposed as a means of assigning a reliability index to a design. Probability bounds can be obtained rigorously as functions of the reliability index. The approach conceptually extends the useful reliability index from second-moment formats to probabilistic formats. /Author/
