STANDARD FOR WASTE-OIL INCINERATORS FOR DIESEL SHIPS

This standard, issued by the Machinery Plant Committee Group I of the Marine Engineering Society in Japan, consists of general rules for estimating the quantity of waste oil produced on board, the quantities of waste oil and solid wastes to be incinerated, and the burning capacity of incinerators, together with a basic scematic diagram of a waste-oil incinerating system and a table of requirements for the instruments and control of a system in ships propelled by low-speed Diesels. The standard is accompanied by explanatory notes, and appendices give some tabulated results of a questionnaire, completed by members of the Group in 1975, on troubles experienced with shipboard incinerators for waste oil on methods of waste-oil disposal in motor ships not equipped with incinerators, and, for turbine ships, on the number of ships with incinerators and the proportions of different materials burned.
