IMPROVEMENT OF STERN TUBE SEALING BASED ON SHIPBOARD TESTS
Measurement of oil pressure fluctuation in stern tube and in the space between each seal ring aboard a container ship is reported, as well as measurement of oil leakage in the space between number 2 and number 3 seal rings aboard more than ten vessels. The results were used to prevent oil from leaking into the sea, or sea water from leaking into the oil.
