This paper is concerned with environmental pollution by heavy metals, particularly by cadmium, lead and mercury. After dealing, in general, with radioactive and non-radioactive metals and their effect on the environment, the author gives a detailed account of the pollution of the environment by cadmium, lead and mercury. The paper describes the health hazards involved and then proceeds to study the means of reducing pollution by the treatment and recycling of industrial wastes and effluents. /TRRL/
