CONCRETE CARRIAGEWAY CONSTRUCTION ON A RURAL MOTORWAY

The paper records the planning and construction of the concrete carriageway on the Loughton to South Harlow section of M11 motorway in the summer of 1976. It describes how recent design recommendations, extensive preplanning, good co-operation and the adoption of general good practice were combined in an effort to produce a high quality concrete road. Factual information is given on the execution of the work, details of the equipment and comprehensive testing. The authors have attempted to outline the problems and give their personal view of the end result in the hope that the paper will give guidance to engineers, stimulate thought and discussion to the benefit of both client and contractor on future contracts. /TRRL/
