Noise is introduced through a consideration of some basic physical concepts. These principles are carried through to a discussion of traffic noise. The generation, annoyance, measurement and prediction of road traffic noise are all discussed. Control of traffic noise is described in terms of the above factors and is shown to be a problem whose solution requires careful plannig. /TRRL/
