TECHNICAL NOTE. A BOREHOLE DISPLACEMENT GAUGE

The device described in this article is a very simple and inexpensive means for determining the profile of a borehole liner. The liner used is simply a 75 mm diameter pvc domestic downpipe. Movements of the soil surrounding the borehole are reflected in distortion of the tube in the same manner as 'slope indicator' tubes. Unlike most methods of determining borehole profiles (such as with slope indicators), the operation is entirely mechanical and does not require expensive electronic equipment. /Author/TRRL/
