ROADS AND NOISE

VAEGAR OCH BULLER

This investigation is carried out in order to show the need to take noise problems into account when planning the landscape and environment of a road network. The main emphasis is placed on the practical planning of the landscape, which is studied along sections of three different roads with regard to reduction of traffic noise. This planning is discussed primarily from the point of view of location and groups of built up areas and activities. Measures described for the reduction of traffic noise are screening, earth dams, vegetation and combinations of these. Also discussed are sunken roads and tunnels. Finally, maintenance and costs for these measures are briefly mentioned. /TRRL/
