SYNTHETIC AGGREGATES FOR ROAD SURFACINGS
This paper details the philosophy and tests used to develop a durable, polish-resistant and light coloured artificial aggregate. Commonly available raw materials have been combined in ceramic type mixtures, fired and evaluated in the laboratory. A satisfactory ceramic artificial aggregate mixture has been developed and field trials to assess the best size and shape of aggregate for sprayed seal applications are being conducted. The work has been carried out as a joint study between the Country Roads Board, Victoria, and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Division of Building Research. /Author/TRRL/
