ROAD SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR TOWN PLANNING
A manual on road safety guidelines for town planning is being prepared by the Australian Department of Transport. Its purpose is to summarise existing knowledge of the road safety implications of town planning practice and to present this information in the form of practical guidelines which can be used in the planning of new urban areas and the redevelopment of existing older areas. This paper outlines the way in which the manual is being prepared, and also some of the information on which it is based. The individual guidelines (in draft form) are listed in Appendix A.
