THE ESTIMATION OF A MEASURE OF VEHICLE DELAY FROM DETECTOR OUTPUT

This paper describes the development of a model to enable the travel times of vehicles down a road link to be estimated from detector output. A complex model is reduced in stages to a simpler form which is easier to use and which provides nearly as good a fit as the original. In its reduced form the model is capable of accounting for all but 10 per cent of the variation in transit times. Finally some suggestions are tendered for establishing how the parameters in the model depend on signal timings and road layout.(a) /TRRL/
