A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD APPLIED TO THE COLLAPSE ANALYSIS OF STIFFENED BOX GIRDER DIAPHRAGMS

The paper describes a finite element method designed to calculate the behaviour of stiffened steel plate panels from zero load to failure. The method is applied to the analysis of unstiffened and lightly stiffened rectangular box-girder diaphragms. In this first case, the predicted behaviour is compared with experimental results for four test specimens. In both cases comparisons are made with the aid of merrison interim design rules. /TRRL/
