The author describes the use of "cor-ten" weathering steel in the construction of a multistorey car-par, in Winsford, Cheshire. An outline is given of the site conditions and the reasons for the choice of materials and method of construction touched on. Problems encountered and described include the straining of cor-ten by concrete grouting and the time taken in complying with fire regulations. In two years the whole frame should have achieved the expected shade of brown which will blend the car-park in with its surroundings. This is because upon exposure to the atmosphere cor-ten develops an adhering oxide layer which inhibits corrosion. /TRRL/
