TRAVEL AS AN EMPLOYER IN THE STATE ECONOMY
This article discusses the travel industry as an employer in the state economy. The Travel Economic Impact Model (TEIM) developed in 1975 for the U.S. Department of the Interior is used to describe the contribution of travel jobs to employment in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. First, travel industry employment is estimated by the TEIM; then this employment is compared on a state basis with other state industries to determine the travel industry's employment rank. The ratio of travel-generated jobs to total nonagricultural payroll employment in 1974 is also discussed. /Author/
