A NOTE ON THE USE OF HYDRAULIC FRACTURING TECHNIQUES FOR ESTIMATING IN-SITU STRESSES IN HARD AND SOFT EARTHEN MATERIALS

The use of hydraulic fracture techniques to determine in-situ principal stresses in hard and soft rock materials, is discussed. Field and laboratory equipment and tests are described and some results presented. An outline of the experimental program makes reference to further research and discusses the applicability and limitations of the technique. /TRRL/
