IMPROVEMENT IN THE STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF GUSSASPHALT BY ADDITION OF RUBBER FILLER

The article presents the results of laboratory tests made on gussasphalt containing sand and a rubber filler. It is shown that the substitution of 3% of filler by the rubber filler in a mix containing 75% of sand of 0.5 mm size, 25% of filler and 11% of bitumen increases the cohesion from 0.45 to 2.65 bar, the angle of internal friction from 29 degrees to 32 degrees. Furthermore, the adhesion on wet pavement surfacing measured on test samples with a pendulum, is improved. Experiments have been made on site, using standard materials for the construction of ordinary asphaltic concrete surfacings. The surfacing constructed on an experimental section performed very well.
