FLOATING LNG FACILITIES MAY SOLVE MANY PROBLEMS

A review of the history and state-of-the-art of offshore concepts for LNG liquefaction/storage facilities is presented. Four types of basic offshore concepts are discussed: (1) floating facilities; (2) grounded floatable facilities; (3) platform-mounted facilities with floating storage; and (4) subsea storage with a superstructure platform on which the process machinery is mounted. It is concluded that the No. 1 concept, which involves barge-mounted liquefaction/storage facilities, is the best answer to both environmental and technological questions where gas is found offshore.
