SHIP'S NON-DETERMINISTIC DESIGN AND THE PRACTICING NAVAL ARCHITECT

This Abstract covers the final part of a three part article. It deals with the ship's response spectra based on the superposition of ship motion and wave-induced loads. The principle of superposition simply asserts that the responses of the ship to an irregular sea can be obtained by summing the responses of the ship to regular waves of all frequencies that make up the sea. The probability of different types of failure are considered.
