A DISTRIBUTION MODEL FOR EMPTY SHIP MOVEMENTS
DISTRIBUTIEMODEL VOOR DE REIZEN VAN ONGELADEN BINNENSCHEPEN
In considering their policy on the infrastructure of Dutch inland waterways, the authorities have for a number of years made use of a traffic assignment model. This model forms part of a forecasting model for freight transport. As the movements of empty ships make up around 40% of the traffic volume on the Dutch network, an investigation was carried out in order to build a model for the generation and distribution of empty ship movements. This paper is mainly concerned with the distribution model for empty ship movements. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no. 229702.
