ASPECTS OF THE DESIGN OF A SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS TERMINAL FOR MERCHANT SHIPS
Some of the engineering considerations involved in the development of a ship terminal intended to work into the MARISAT civil marine satellite communication system are discussed. It was a requirement that the terminal should work with minimal modification into the future MAROTS and INMARSAT systems, but since system specifications for these did not and do not exist the development has been essentially the design of a MARISAT terminal but with some flexibility built in where it was anticipated that the differences might occur.
