THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ANTHROPOMETRY FOR SPACE REQUIREMENTS IN ROAD VEHICLES AND THE RISK OF INJURIES IN ROAD ACCIDENTS

KROPPSPROPORTIONERNAS BETYDELSE FOR FORDONSUTRYMMEN OCH FOR RISKEN FOR SKADOR VID FORDONSOLYCKOR

In research concerning transport and road safety, up to date anthropometric data are needed. Collection and compilation of such data are reported from several countries. The results show that a trend towards taller and slimmer individuals is noticeable during recent decades. In regard to the design of the passenger compartment of road vehicles, a better knowledge of body dimensions and proportions are important mainly for the driver's vision, his reach and for the design and location of safety devices. The project reported here concerns only anthropometry in the sitting posture for the adult population of Sweden during the 1970s. All data reported were obtained from a pool at the University of Gothenburg. This pool consists of data on the growth, the audlt age and the aging of man and is based on measurements from about 7,000 men and women of various age and population groups. /Author/
