SELECTED SOIL MECHANICS PROPERTIES OF KENTUCKY COAL PREPARATION PLANT REFUSE
In order to dispose of coal refuse from preparation plants in an economical and safe manner the physical properties and engineering characteristics must be known. This paper describes a project undertaken to study the coal preparation plant refuse materials being produced in Kentucky. The purpose of the project was to apply commonly used laboratory tests to the refuse and determine its physical and engineering characteristics. It is concluded that the coal refuse materials from Kentucky can be used for many construction purposes, including the use of refuse as a fill material for highways, and for land fills.
