PERFORMANCE OF SOME MAJOR ROAD VEHICLE CLASSES IN THE AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS FLEET SERVICE: DECEMBER 1990 TO DECEMBER 1995
This paper presents data on the contemporary and recent performance of a 0.9 per cent sample of the motor vehicles on Australian roads. We consider the sample to be representative of the 10 per cent of all Australian motor vehicles of these types which are in business use, a class which accounts for between 15 per cent and 18 per cent of road use (by distance travelled) and approximately one-half of new vehicle purchases. The paper identifies trends in the following areas: vehicle type choice and engine size; fuel consumption; and vehicle ownership characteristics. (a)
