YOUTH ALCOHOL EDUCATION MATERIAL DISSEMINATION AND PROMOTION

Two educational products developed in full or in part by the Department of Transportation were the focus of this study. They were: the K-12 Alcohol Safety Curriculum Materials and a filmstrip, The Decision Is Yours. The objectives of the contract were: (1) to increase the distribution of the materials while studying the effects of alternative printed media promotion techniques; (2) to gather data on the effectiveness of the underlying curriculum development model; and (3) to create guidelines for future curriculum development and materials dissemination projects. The marketing evaluation identified direct mail marketing as a more cost-effective and sales productive technique that magazine advertising; it also identified key buyer groups in the school system for this kind of material. A user survey administered to product users was designed to gather data on curriculum design strength, weakness, and effectiveness, as well as overall customer satisfaction.
