THE PERMITTIVITY TEST FOR BITUMEN
Bitumens having a relatively high permittivity 'weather' more rapidly in rolled-asphalt wearing course than those with a lower value. The development of the permittivity test for bitumen is described. The method uses a commercially available micrometer capacitor with guard ring and the bitumen sample is cast into a parallel-faced glass cell. Permittivity is measured at 25 deg plus or minus 0.25 deg C using a bridge frequency of 1592 hz. The repeatability and reproducibility of the test are 0.006 and 0.008 respectively; this precision is considered to be adequate for an acceptance test.
