ABSON RECOVERY OF ASPHALT FROM SOLUTION IN 3 SOLVENTS
The Abson Recovery Test separates the asphalt from the binder (aggregates) without causing any physical abuse to the asphalts. If asphalt mixes can be sampled in various stages of their life, some correlations could be made. This study is a follow up of a previous unpublished study using three different solvents; Benzene, methylene chloride and trichloroethylene. The best reproducibility resulted with the use of solvent--trichloroethylene. This disagrees with recommended AASHTO Test Methods T-170-73 where benzene or trichloroethylene is prescribed. /Author/
