INVESTIGATIONS OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW AT GRADE-SEPARATED JUNCTIONS WITH DIVERGING LANES

UNTERSUCHUNGEN DES VERKEHRSABLAUFES AN AUSFAHRTEN PLANFREIEN KNOTENPUNKTE MIT SPURSUBTRAKTION

The present work investigates the safety and efficiency aspects of the traffic flow on the three-lane one-way carriageway north of the Horst autobahn triangle macroscopically with video cameras over a stretch 1.4 km long and microscopically with video cameras over a stretch 1.4 km long and microscopicaalyly with video cameras over a stretch 1.4 km long and microscopicaally with the aid of 14 adhesively-bonded inductive loops in the immediate diversion area. Multiple regression analyses are carried out for the factors "volume of traffic per lane" and "change of lane" as a function of traffic density, traffic composition, proportion of vehicles turning off, and distance to the point of diversion, and a theoretical model (concept of the traffic flow as an inhomogeneous Markov process) is developed, with which the relationships determined can be described comparatively accurately. On the basis of the results it has been shown, among other things, that, no efficiency problems arise in relation to the volume of traffic per lane and the changing of lanes if a ratio of 70:30 between the direction with more and that with less traffic is not exceeded, that the factors are influenced appreciably by direction signs, and that rejection on safety grounds of lane diversion, with the left lane of the ramp beginning at the ramp nose, does not appear to be justified. /Author/
