GUIDE POUR LE CONTROLE DU COMPACTAGE DES COUCHES DE CHAUSSEES ET NOTE TCHNIQUE COMPLEMENTAIRE AU GUIDE

The present guide is published jointly by SETRA and LCPC. It deals with one operation: the compaction of pavement layers. It incorporates the data from the C.P.C. (Cahier des Prescriptions Communes--standard specifications), specific C.P.C. and directives and recommendations. It is aimed at site managers and should make it possible for them to link the different documents as regards the function of compaction. The guide distinguishes six control phases and defines the target to be achieved for each phase, the means to be employed and the procedures to follow. Particular problems treated are: the drafting of the Cahier des Prescriptions Communes; the construction of test roads and the definition of the reference section; surveillance of plant; the control of the sub-base and of its deformability; the control ahead of the compacting operations; the control during compaction; random checks. As a complement to the guide, a technical note is added, which gives advice on the construction of test roads and the control of reference sections and indicates the principal characteristics of compaction equipment. /TRRL/
