THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN STRATEGY FOR MANAGING FATIGUE IN THE ROAD TRANSPORT INDUSTRY
There is a concern in Australia about the part played by fatigue in truck crashes. Several Australian states restrict truck driving hours to 12 in any rolling 24 hour period in an attempt to limit fatigue as a causal factor in road crashes involving heavy goods vehicles. One of the Austrian states, Western Australia (WA) does not enforce restrictions on driving hours, Nevertheless, WA is concerned to reduce fatigue in the road transportation industry in order to minimize fatigue related crashes. This paper describes the WA strategy for managing fatigue.
