KEYNOTE ADDRESS- SYMPOSIUM ON METHODS FOR DETERMINING GEOMETRIC ROAD DESIGN STANDARDS
In the opening address of the symposium it was stated that highway design should take a wide view of the requirements of man both as an individual and as a member of a community. Using this approach road standards would take an integrated multidisciplinary approach, both qualitative and quantitative. After reviewing the contents of the sessions of the symposium, intended to reflect the growing awareness of road engineers of the economic, social and human impact of roads, the address concludes with a discussion on the development of international highway design standards.
