SUMMARY OF NATIONAL METHODS FOR ESTABLISHING GEOMETRIC ROAD DESIGN STANDARDS
The paper presents a summary of the development of road design standards on which work is at present in progress in different countries. Work on developing standards aimed at achieving economy and uniformity in road design is carried out in many countries by research institutes where research can provide a basis for either new standards or the adaptation of existing standards. It is suggested that uniform definitions should be agreed internationally for terms such as standards, recommendations, instructions, policies and guides. Brief details are given of the plans of individual countries concerning the development of road design standards. /TRRL/
