CALIBRATION OF REFERENCE TIME ERRORS IN DIRECT-RANGING LORAN-C NAVIGATION

The problem of integrating the Loran-C receiver with a minicomputer and a time standard in order to achieve maximum fix accuracy in the direct-ranging mode is considered. In particular, the problem of calibrating and compensating time-dependent errors associated with the time-standard is discussed. This problem is addressed by developing a digital filter, based on estimation techniques, for processing the range measurements. Numerical results are obtained by use of covariance analysis, and include the effects of various Loran-C error sources. Implementation of the filter in a commonly-used minicomputer is also investigated, including estimates of memory and execution time requirements.
