3.3 KV ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS FOR ESSO PRODUCT TANKERS

The 3300 V generation and distribution systems were installed on the 20,000 DWT product tankers "ESSO Mersey" and "ESSO Clyde" which entered service in 1972. Operational experience is reviewed, in particular quick turnaround times were achieved. Design considerations for the 3.3 KV system are dealt with in some detail, and it is compared with the 440 V system.
