EXPERIENCES WITH THE PHYSTESTER, AN APPARATUS DESIGNED AS AN ALCOHOL-IGNITION-INTERLOCKING SYSTEM

ERFAHRUNGEN MIT DEM PHYSTESTER, EINEM ALS ALKOHOL-INTERLOCK VORGESEHENEN TESTGERAET

In two series of tests with the phystester, a total of 20 subjects were tested on their performance before and after having a blood alcohol content of 0.6 to 0.8 p.p. Thousand. The new testing apparatus developed by General Motors and conceived as an ignition interlocking system represents a choice reaction test with a visual 5 point indicator hand and a press button (keyboard) input apparatus of the pocket calculator type. The results before and 40 to 80 minutes after the administering of the alcohol dose do not deviate from each other statistically at any time, even when the test is repeated up to five times in two versions of differing difficulty. In spite of preliminary research studies, no definite alcoholic influence can be proven by means of a short term alcohol dose. For this reason a test of this kind is not suitable in individual cases, for practical installation in a motor vehicle with a view to differentiating between the ability and inability to drive. /TRRL/
