KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED ON THE TECHNIQUE OF SPREADING PRECOATED CHIPPINGS ON CONCRETE

CONNAISSANCES ACQUISES EN MATIERE DE BETON DE CIMENT CLOUTE

The article summarizes Belgian experience between 1950 and 1970 on the subject of spreading precoated chippings on fresh concrete. The various methods used for preliminary treatment are described, the calibration, the choice of stones for spreading and their embedment. The favourable results obtained as regards adhesion, surface texture and behaviour under traffic of the chippings are examined. This surface finish technique permits, in comparison to others such as surface grooving, the use of aggregates prone to polishing throughout the concrete mass. Because of the economic advantages of the process its mechanisation will be announced shortly. Details are given of the spreading and embedment of the chippings. /TRRL/
