ROADS FOR PEOPLE
The paper begins by underlining the need to design with a view to enhancing the total environment. It goes on to draw attention to the criticisms which have been levelled at designers of residential access roads in recent years. The great variety of possibilities in the designs of vehicle access systems is then illustrated with designed examples. The article concludes with the suggestion that there is much to be gained by road designers reappraising their attitudes to the method of providing vehicle access to residential areas. Such a reappraisal could result in the highway engineer playing a fuller part in the efforts to evolve more pleasing and fulfilling environments in which people have their homes. (Author) /TRRL/
