THE INTERACTION BETWEEN PLANE FRAME SYSTEMS AND FOUNDATION BEAMS. NOTE 1: THEORETICAL STUDY

L'INTERAZIONE TRA SISTEMI INTELAIATI PIANI E TRAVI DI FONDAIONE. NOTA 1: TRATTAZIONE TEORICA

A method is proposed for the analysis of plane systems consisting of a structural frame and foundation beam. The problem is approached by coupling to the foundation beam (which deforms in deflection) another beam which deforms in shear and to which the frame is assembled. The problem is solved by applying the transfer matrix method, which permits an extension of the results to non-uniform systems. It is shown that once the stress and deformation characteristics of the foundation beam have been determined, it is easy to derive the like characteristics of the various members of the frame structure. /TRRL/
