INTEGRATION OF PAYMENT SYSTEM IN AVL SERVICE: THE STRATEGIC ROLE OF SHORT-RANGE MICROWAVE DEVICE
This paper describes the current efforts made by ATAF, the transit company of the Florence Metropolitan Area in the integration of the Integrated Payment (IP) system with the AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system in order to utilize the same short-range communication device. Aspects described include operational, service and technolgical impacts. Some information is provided on the fare transaction data flow and on the functional architecture of the IP system taking into account the AVL environment. Finally some comments on the role of the short-range device in the overall ATT scenario currently operated in the Florence urban area are provided underlying the role of each system.
