The authors describe an employer-based commuter ride-share program that has been very successful in Knoxville, Tennessee. The program, consisting of express buses, carpooling and vanpooling, has attracted professionals of medium and high income groups who traditionally are not transit riders. The key factors for the success of the program include citizen participation, the support of employers and the city administration.
