SPECTROSCOPY SIMPLIFIED
A new generation of instruments is described which incorporates the most recent advances in multichannel detector technology, concave holographic diffraction gratings and microcomputers. The diode array rapid-scanning spectrometer (DARSS) opens new fields of UV/visible absorption measurements. An interesting application interfaces the DARSS system to a liquid chromatograph. Details of the recording of spectra, storage of absorbance spectra, the gathering of the spectra of he detectors deuterium and quartz halogen lamps, and the wavelength-calibration of the spectrum are outlined. The DARSS system can be used for standard UV/visible absorption measurements, and to measure (directly) x-ray and elctron spectra.
