PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION OF EXTREME FLOODS

Two aspects of the unusually large floods experienced in 1972 are discussed: how such large floods affect the computation of the 50-year peak and how these floods plot on a probability distribution of extreme floods based on analysis of 157,000 annual peaks at about 200 stream gauging stations. Weight factors are given to be used in computing 50-year peaks both with the without extreme floods included.
