PORT MANAGEMENT PROBLEM STUDY

The purpose of the study was to: ( 1 ) identify key problem areas where the introduction of new management techniques could assist management in improving the efficiency of U.S. port operations; ( 2 ) develop research recommendations for the Maritime Administration that could assist in the industrys efforts to cope with changing managerial requirements; and ( 3 ) identify the information and data requirements that would enable port managers to make better decisions in both short and long-term port development and operations. During the course of the study a selection and survey of representative seaports on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, the Pacific and Gulf coasts was made. ( Author )
