PERFORMANCE OF OFFSHORE STRUCTURES-STATE OF THE ART

Several aspects related to the design and performance of steel and concrete offshore structures are outlined in this paper. Besides structural and dynamic behaviour in general, specific items related to relability, severiceability and maintainability are considered. The adequacy of design codes and current design specifications are reviewed. In order to obtain optimum design and reliability throughout the total service life of the structures, some amendments are discussed with respect of criteria and verification procedures in current use. Quality of fabrication and materials is commented on the background of the present experience. Reliability and quality of inspection procedures are discussed, in line with a brief description of modern equipment and methods employed presently.
