STUDY OF TRAVEL BEHAVIOR OF THE ELDERLY
A study has been made of comparative travel behavior of a group of elderly and non-elderly persons in Buffalo, New York. The study supports the hypothesis that there are no severe changes in travel behavior as one gets older, but that the quality of travel, as opposed to the quantity of travel, deteriorates. The paper analyzes all aspects of travel for 14 non-work activities. Characteristics of the study group, car availability, activity choices, and travel distance and attitudes are discussed.
